07 Sep LFCSA welcomes Francesco Rengifo, Artist in Residence
LFCSA is proud to welcome our first artist in residence on 2015-2016, Francesco Rengifo. Francesco is a Peruvian-born artist coming from a large family. During his involvement with non profits that sought to benefit children, he identified a lack of opportunities that inspired children to use non-violent strategies for conflict resolution. He wants to create opportunities for children to learn and reflect on their individual strengths and weaknesses, develop conflict resolution skills, and access their competitive spirit, all that through fun dance and strategy game play. Peace and Love Rally seeks to do that.
Peace and Love Rally is a fictional world where children arrive to create change within themselves. A child who gossips may come into the world as a Telefany to learn the impact of those actions, and how to use the gift of sharing news in a positive way. A child who is shy may come in as a Robluski so they can learn to overcome their shyness. Once the child learns the lesson they return to their world leaving their character to reside in this fictional world. The game also gives children a chance to learn about math and strategy.
With screen-printed pieces and community involvement, Peace and Love Rally is a movement that inspires kids to make art and create connections. As we move further into the Internet age it can feel like we have hindered our ability to connect with each other and ourselves. Peace and Love Rally seeks to address and help reveal light through its positive principles.
Francesco will be at los Feliz Charter Art School for the Arts through November 18th, 2015. You can find him working in the studio and welcoming students Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. Francesco can be reached at FRNR77@gmail.com. Peace And Love Rally can be found on facebook and prosite.
