LFCSA welcomes our first Artist in Residence of the year: sculptur Sophia Allison. Sophia will be introducing all classes to her papermaking process, and will work collaboratively with students to build sculptures using student-created paper.
Sophia Allison (MFA, University of Wisconsin-Madison; BFA, East Carolina University) works in a variety of media including sculpture, collage, sewing and installation. Her work has been shown in exhibitions within the U.S and abroad including France, Seoul, Korea, the Palm Springs Art Fair, the San Jose Institute for Contemporary Art, the Los Angeles International Airport (through the Department of Cultural Affairs’ LA World Airport Art Program), the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles, d.e.n. contemporary art, AndrewShire Gallery, Kristi Engle Gallery, and the Torrance Art Museum. Ms. Allison’s art has received favorable critical reviews in publications including the Los Angeles Times, Artillery Magazine, MAKE magazine, and Artscene. She is a recent recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Ms. Allison lives and works in Los Angeles. www.sophiaallison.com
