ABOUT THE CATALYST SERIES

The Catalyst Series, organized and hosted by Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts (LFCSA), seeks to bring together organizations and individuals who wish to take part in shaping the educational landscape with respect to ARTS INTEGRATION, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, and DEMOCRATIC PEDAGOGY.

This year we will be hosting two Catalyst Educator Days, our annual Catalyst Conference, and a new Catalyst Workshop! ALL EVENTS TAKE PLACE AT LOS FELIZ CHARTER SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS.

 

April 29th, 8am-4pm – ANNUAL CATALYST CONFERENCE

The Catalyst Conference, organized and hosted by Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts, seeks to bring together individuals who wish to take part in shaping the educational landscape with respect to arts integration, civic engagement, and democratic pedagogy. Our conference will examine the intersections between art, democracy and education.

Our convening’s Lines of Inquiry:

1. Pedagogy: How do the arts help to create 21st century learning environments, habits, and values that nurture self agency, creative problem solving, collaboration, and solidarity?

2. Policy: What educational and institutional structures and policies are needed to create and sustain deep and meaningful arts experiences in today’s classrooms that will have a significant impact on the learners’ democratic life?

3. Power: What are the leverage points in the current landscape of the arts in education, and how can those points be targeted, expanded, and projected?

March 9th, 8am-4pm – CATALYST ARTS INTEGRATION WORKSHOP

Come to a hands-on workshop to integrate the Common Core and the Arts to produce project-based STEAM lessons/units.  Learn how to build in creativity, collaboration, critical thinking experiences to lessons/units.

November 29th, 9am-1pm and January 26th, 9am-1pm – CATALYST EDUCATOR DAY

The Catalyst Educator Day is a half-day event that will give participants an opportunity to see Arts Integration in action, and engage in dialogue with other educators to discuss approaches, strategies, and curriculum seeds that highlight interdisciplinary standards-based learning in and through the arts.  Please register here.
