Next Stage Planning Q&A
Below you will find a list of questions we have received from parents. They have been organized into categories to make navigation easier. Please submit your question here. We will continue to update this page as we get answers to your questions.
Most of these questions have been addressed during our monthly Community Check ins. The live recordings and presentation slide deck are available here.
Q: Will we return to school for the 2020-21 school year?
A: The 2020-21 school year will begin with a distance learning model and will then shift to a hybrid model as soon as our county moves to stage 4 reopening. Click here to find out more about our reopening criteria and next stage plan.
Q: Will there be aftercare for my child when we move to the hybrid model?
A: Yes our after school program will be available to your child. Please click here to find out more and to apply for aftercare for the upcoming school year. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any follow up questions.
Learning Models (Distance and Hybrid)
Q: If my family does not want to participate in distance learning can I enroll when you school reopens in person?
A: Unfortunately we cannot guarantee there will be spots available to families who decide to not begin the school year with us. Also we do anticipate that we will be moving from distance learning to the hybrid model this school year, this transition will be much smoother for students who begin the year with us.
Q: When we shift to the hybrid model will I have the option to continue distance learning if I would prefer?
A: Yes. We will have 3 cohorts of students. Two of these cohort will attend classes partly on campus and partly at home. The third cohort will be full distance learning.
Q: Will I be able to choose what cohort I will be in?
A: A Needs Assessment Survey was sent to all enrolled families asking for cohort preferences. Our administration will use this feedback when creating class assignments and hybrid cohorts.
Q: Will I be able to request my child be with another child so that our families can support each other?
A: See answer above
Q: Will students be required to wear masks and/or face shields while at school?
A: Yes. A full list of safety precautions including required mask wearing will be sent to families prior to the first day of school and were discussed at our July Community Check in. Click here for presentation slide deck (slide 26).
Q: Is the school providing accommodations for teachers with compromised immune systems?
A: Yes. Teachers and staff received the same needs assessment survey as our parents and were asked about their health needs so that the school could look into providing accommodations for them.
Q: If a student or staff member in the school were to test positive for Covid-19, would the school close again?
A: It all depends on the level of exposure. Once an exposure is confirmed the school will implement the COVID-19 Exposure Management Plan (EMP) and assess if a specific cohort needs to be quarantined or if the whole school needs to be quarantined.
Q: If the county decided to to return to Stage 2 or 3 will the school close again?
A: No. We will remain open unless we have a confirmed amount of cases amongst our student and/or staff members.
