Jessica Bupp attended the Orange County High School of the Arts for high school and continued her education at Chapman University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film and Television. During her time at Chapman, Miss Bupp worked as a tutor and teacher’s aide at various schools. Upon graduation, Miss Bupp became employed by Fox Studios and worked in the television industry for five years. During hiatus periods, Miss Bupp taught filmmaking to young students and also continued to tutor, which led her to pursue teaching full time. She returned to school and participated in a teacher preparation program at California State University, Northridge, taking part in the ACT (Accelerated Collaborative Teacher) Program.
Miss Bupp’s philosophy about teaching and learning is a mixture of a constructivist approach and the use of integrated-arts. Through this style of teaching, she feels that children will develop a genuine love of learning at a young age. Miss Bupp believes that teachers can facilitate students in constructing their own knowledge by planning engaging learning experiences that are student-driven and inquiry-based. Additionally, Miss Bupp is passionate about assessing student learning with the use of authentic assessments that measure several dimensions of student understanding. She feels that a constructivist approach to learning will provide students with opportunities to display how they reached an answer, which is much more important than just simply choosing the right answer. Furthermore, by developing arts-integrated lessons, Miss Bupp feels that students will be able to bring concepts to life in creative and meaningful ways. With a strong background in filmmaking, Miss Bupp hopes to enrich student learning by incorporating video production opportunities in which students learn through writing, directing, filming, and editing videos such as news programs, dramas, and variety shows.
Miss Bupp has several personal interests, many of which revolve around her love of creativity. Throughout her life, Miss Bupp has enjoyed artistic avenues such as performing arts, dance, technical theater, painting, interior design, mosaic-making, video editing and filmmaking. She also loves to teach filmmaking to children at her summer workshops. When Miss Bupp isn’t teaching, she can be found spending time with her family; crafting with her sisters and mom and playing with her adorable nephew who has just learned to walk.
