Lisa Levy, 2nd Grade Faculty Member

staff_goodfried1A true Southern California native, Lisa Levy grew up in Encino with her parents and three older brothers. She did her undergraduate work at UC Davis where she studied Communication and English ,with six months of Spanish and Cultural Studies abroad in Seville, Spain.

Before setting her sights on a career in teaching, she explored her commitment to empower kids to write through non-profit youth program management. As a program director for the Young Storytellers Foundation, she increased literacy and self-esteem through the art of storytelling. This life-long love of letting kids be creative in everything they do led to the position of volunteer coordinator for The Painted Turtle, a Lake Hughes camp devoted to youth with chronic medical conditions. During that time, she earned her M.A. in Education and teaching credentials from Pepperdine University.

In the Spring of 2008, Ms. Levy attended the Los Angeles Charter Schools Career Fair. “I remember being drawn to a particular booth because of a sock-puppet. That was the moment I met Karin, Heather Newlin, and Nancy Martorelli,” Ms. Levy says. On paper, Ms. Levy’s path to teaching—a well-rounded combination of program management, volunteer coordinator, an M.A., and teaching credentials—represents her ability to contribute to LFCSA’s children and overall community. She feels that she has a natural talent for teaching and an inherent ability to connect with all children. Ms. Levy says, “I love teaching at LFCSA, because I love teaching students the process and letting them go for it. I’m someone who likes to think out of the box. Here I can put my own spice and enthusiasm into things.”

When she’s not at school, you can find Ms. Levy cooking new recipes at home in Studio City, walking her dog, “Woody,” and spending quality time with her husband and four nephews.
