Throughout her life Jeanne Parkhurst had the fortunate experience of combining her love of the arts with her love of rigorous academics.
As an undergraduate at New York University, Ms. Parkhurst pursued her love of photography, art history and French. After graduating from NYU, Ms. Parkhurst spent the next two years working with a variety of museums, schools and educational organizations: the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX, Classen School of Advanced Studies in Oklahoma City, and upon returning to New York, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
All of Ms. Parkhurst’s experiences culminated when she discovered the Museum/Childhood Education program at Bank Street College in 2008. The graduate program allowed her to combine her love of art with her love of teaching, and her love of museums with her love of classrooms. D
uring her graduate studies she worked with the MoMA, the Dia Art Foundation, the Earth School, and Manhattan Country School. All along the way she met supportive mentors and inspiring students.
Ms. Parkhurst was drawn to LFCSA’s arts-integration program and its focus on educating the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and culturally. Ms. Parkhurst says, “My goal is to help each child become a capable, deep thinker and a valuable community member. En route to this goal, students figure out who they are, what they can contribute and how they can challenge themselves. I aim to be a patient, kind, and thoughtful guide who is actively engaged in each student’s unique process. I feel at home at LFCSA, and I see tremendous possibilities with such a strong team.”
Ms. Parkhurst loves going on long walks and doing yoga to relax and create new ideas. She’s an avid independent/foreign filmgoer, and tries to get out to museums as much as possible. Gathering goodies from farmer’s markets and listening to NPR are two of her favorite pastimes.
