Dear LFCSA Families,
As you may have read or heard in the news, cases of the swine flu virus continue to be reported throughout areas of the United States, including California.
While the majority of the cases in the United States have been mild, we are working very hard to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, and the general community.
The swine flu virus causes symptoms similar to seasonal influenza: fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and sometimes runny nose and sneezing. Although there are no known cases in the Los Angeles area we would like to remind you of some ways to protect your family from getting sick:
♣ If you are sick with flu-like symptoms, stay home. Do not send children who are sick to school.
♣ Teach your children to wash their hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially before eating and after using the restroom. Be sure to set a good example by doing this yourself!
♣ Teach your children to cover coughs and sneezes with tissues (throw the tissue in the trash after using it) or by coughing into the inside of the elbow. Again, be sure to set a good example by doing this yourself!
♣ Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth since germs primarily spread these ways.
♣ Teach your children to stay at least three feet away from people who are sick, avoiding any close contact.
For more information and updates, you can check the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at www.cdc.gov/flu/swine. Should you have any more questions or concerns, please contact your local health care provider.
All the best,
Karin Newlin
